Braine-l’Alleud: green, dynamic and intermodal

At the heart of the Hain valley and at the gateway to Brussels, the biggest municipality in Walloon Brabant is both dynamic and attractive, in an environment where nature still reigns. The benefits of the city combined with the charm of the countryside.

With a mayor who retained an absolute majority in order to begin his fourth term of office following the elections on 14 October, Braine-l’Alleud has enjoyed remarkable political stability for almost 20 years now. This enables the town council team to carry out numerous projects that make this municipality of 39,000 inhabitants, the most populous in Walloon Brabant, particularly secure and pleasant to live in.

This is clear from the recent inauguration of the Plan du Paradis, a natural area of 40 hectares including a 5-hectare lake close to Parc de l’Alliance and 10 minutes on foot from the town centre. It is on this site that in two or three years, the future swimming pool will open, to the great delight of the area’s residents.

Braine l’Alleud has an enviable geographic location, around twenty kilometres from Brussels, right at the heart of the green belt around the capital of Europe. Surrounded by forests, fields and the famous Butte du Lion (Lion’s Mound) which is indeed located here, the municipality is still served by an excellent road and rail network. Braine l’Alleud is directly accessible via the east and west ring road, is served by 18 TEC bus lines and will soon host one of the main rapid transit train line stations in the south of Brussels. A Park & Ride station that will become the cornerstone of intermodality, stimulated by the municipality’s mobility plan.

This plan focuses on soft mobility, with a gradual implementation of a network of cycle paths linking the various clusters of Braine l’Alleud, including the many schools which are part of different teaching networks and Gaston Reiff sports complex. The aim is to reach 50 km of soft mobility travel routes with exclusive lanes (we’re almost there), offering the highest possible level of safety for walkers, whether they are travelling for work or leisure. These installations even anticipate the arrival of new modes of travel such as gyropods and other electric scooters…

Enough to stimulate a constantly evolving economy, with over 550 shops scattered across the municipality and over 500 SMEs which have found a supportive environment to carry out their activities… and employment, in particular at the business parks strategically located on the edges of the town, for example Parc de l’Alliance business park. And let’s not forget the weekly markets which attract shoppers every Friday and Sunday, or the big brands and shopping centres scattered around the four corners of the municipality.

Braine l’Alleud also serves the entire region from a cultural perspective, thanks to institutions that need no introduction. These include its cultural centre, its giant cinema complex its art school and its music academy… And let’s not forget the museums that tell the story of the epic events leading up to the battle, then of Napoleon’s defeat here. The town has just celebrated the bicentenary of this defeat!

Discover the numerous housing options in the new l’Alliance neighbourhood, which favours soft mobility with a very good cycle route right to the centre of Braine-l’Alleud.
